It's that time of the year again when everyone wants to get those family photos done before the holidays.  This year I'm holding them at two locations.  One in Crestview and the other at Lake Jackson in Florala, AL.  Sessions will be 20 minutes long and will include 10 high resolution digital images of your choosing with option to purchase additional digitals. Both session pricing is good for up to 6 people. An additional session would need to be purchased if you have a group larger than 6 people. The Holiday Minis will have a light Christmas decor theme in a wooded park in my neighborhood.  You can message me for more information on what the set up will look like.  Holiday Minis will have a rain out date for Saturday November 19th if needed. Lake Jackson will be on November 27th if needed as well. So please be sure to be available on those dates as well.  To book your session date and time you will need to pay half of your session fee as your non refundable retainer and you need to have your signed contract returned to me within 48 hours of your invoice being sent out.   If you would like to book your session or have any questions at all please send me a message.

Look, I love a good deal.  I do.  But when you're belittling someone who has invested so much in their craft, it's such a jab to hear those 12 words. I know what I'm about to say will go in one ear and out the other, but hear me out.  See these 4 images above? How much do you think it's costs your photographer to take those? Not what YOU paid for that session but what your photographer had to pay out of their pocket to give this image to you. You know, so you can cherish it for the rest of your life and your childs?

This total right here still doesn't include costs of websites, insurance, taxes, utilities, rent, advertisement, education (yes your photographer should still be taking proper training), etc. 

Like I said before I love a good deal but when you are hiring a professional of ANY sort you really need to think about all that goes in to what they are doing for you. And know this, your photographer is constanlty adding in newer gear, equipment,props, etc. to make sure you have even more choices for your session that will last a lifetime. 

At the end of August I received a message from a new mother inquiring about a newborn session.  She explained to me that her baby was currently in the NICU and was originally due mid October but arrived July 17th.  As a mother of 4 children my heart sank.  I could only imagine what this new mother is going through having her first child 3 months early.  But I knew that whatever she was going through this photo session is something she needs to look forward to.  

Fast forward a few weeks later to September 24th with a message of news that sweet Selah was going to be discharged in just a few days. Her mother and I started planning for the session getting ideas of what she wanted, only to find out that Selah just wasn't ready enough.  Again I could feel the sadness from the mother. I honestly didn't know what to say besides "I'm so sorry for you to be going through that".  So we waited a few more weeks.  This time little miss Selah was FINALLY ready to come home. 

On October 17th I was greeted with Selah, her Mother, her Grandmother, and Aunt in my little studio. Not only is this sweet miracle so amazing but so are these 3 wonderful women who are looking over her. Even though they were in my home, all 3 made me feel like I was a part of their family for the few hours I shot Selah's session.  I'm so thankful I was able to capture sweet Selah for her mom.  Now she will have this beautiful moment of Selah's life captured forever.

I also wanted to include a little summery of Selah's journey that her mother wrote...

"Selah was born July 17, 2019 at just 26 weeks gestation. She weighed 1 pound 8 ounces and was 10 inches long. She spent three months in the NICU at Sacred Heart Children’s Hospital in Pensacola, FL. She received nonstop tests, exams, and scans. When we were told she would have 3rd degree brain bleeds, she had none. When we were told she would have retinopathy of prematurity which leads to blindness, she didn’t have it. When we were told she would most likely have to go home on oxygen, she’s breathing on her own. Before delivery when they told us the possibility of her having birth defects was very likely, she has all fingers and all toes. One perfect nose and 2 teeny little lips. Apart from the great news, there was also horrible times. At 3 days old she had to receive a blood transfusion because her platelets and white blood count was so low. She was put on life support 3 different times and had 2 separate surgeries before she even reached her 3 months of life. Her heart rate and oxygen would drop simultaneously during random times of the day for weeks since birth and nurses would have to rub her sternum and essentially bring her back to us. There were so many times her little body was trying to slip away but somewhere inside that little body was the will of a fighter. She is nothing short of a miracle who fought to see all the wonders of life."

We're getting to that time of the year where the panhandle can be pretty unpredictable and I thought this would be a fun way to still get in that holiday spirit indoors.  A lot of my clients this year have been saying they are wanting to do Mommy and Me Minis this year and so with that I say, "YOU'VE GOT IT!"  I of course want to make sure my clients can get these shot and have their orders back to them in time for Mother's Day, so they have some amazing shots of them and their little ones to cherish.  This year I will dedicate March 30th & March 31st for these sessions at a park location and at the beach.  A $75 retainer is requested to hold your date and time for the session along with your signed contract.  Please be sure to let me know which package you would like.  You have the option to add on any additional items below while booking or after your session.  Packages are ONLY discounted for these mini sessions.  Since packages are heavily discounted (original value $378 & $488) no additional discounts can be applied.

The Nagelhout's are my newish neighbors.  I wasn't sure what to make of these newlyweds who moved to the neighborhood.  But after a few block parties, a snake killing, and neighborhood watches, they are pretty awesome neighbors.

Last fall I received the exciting news that Kristen was expecting.  She then asked me if I'd be willing to capture their gender reveal.  Uuuh, heck yeah I was!  So we started throwing around ideas on what we were going to do.  It needed to be different, fun, and not too terribly messy. So we decided on using the compound bow and a balloon filled with paint.  The stress came on a tad because there was no room for mistakes when capturing this special moment.  The day came when they had the ultrasound.  It was sealed in an envelope for only my eyes to see first.  Intense right?  Then I got to fill the black balloon with either blue or pink paint.  The rest is history... 

Here is their story captured by me.

Welcome to the world Jase Edward Nagelhout.  It's been a blessing capturing your journey into this world.  <3 -Amanda

The Taylor's were visiting from Oklahoma and wanted to get a few family pictures captured while visiting.  Can you blame them?  I mean, the beaches here are pretty amazing.  Anyways, their whole family was together and the weather was beautiful.  We did them as the sun was coming up too.  Not to many people realize that that's a great time for photos as well.  Yes you have to wake up early but it's cooler and the water is usually pretty calm. To me it's a great way to start the day.
 

Any who, I had a great time getting to know this family.  They were so sweet, fun and up for anything!  It was a pleasure meeting them and hopefully I get to see them all again on their next visit! Enjoy!
 

This was their first deployment and I can see how nervous and excited this wife was.  She was new to the area and far from friends and family.  She just wanted her husband home.  They were about to celebrate their first anniversary together in 2 days.  That young and new love just screamed when they saw each other.   It made me tear up.  It made my heart happy.  She had her husband home and he was on US soil.  What could be better? 
 

I asked her afterwards how she felt seeing him and she couldn't have said it more perfectly, "complete."  These two were finally complete.

Now I hear from people "you need to spend more time living in the moment and not capturing it so much."  Well, I have to disagree.  I actually do get to enjoy the time with my children whether it's behind the camera or with them.  But do you think my daughter will remember this day?  Nope.  My boys will probably forget this moment as well.  Tell me, how many of you remember all of those special moments when you were 2 or 8 or 10?  Yep, our memory fails us a lot.  Not Always but it does from time to time. So I enjoy capturing those moments with my children.  And we love to look back at those pictures I've captured as well.  I hear them say over and over "Oh I don't remember doing that!"  And to me that's pretty cool.  They get to relive those moments and feel like they are back in that moment again.  And most of all my children will know how much I loved and cherished these moments as well.
 

Any who, I hope you enjoy this special time in my life.  I know I do.
 

Ladies and gentlemen this is the reason why I do what I do.  Being a photographer has allowed me to capture special moments and it also allows me to become good friends with the families as well.  Building these relationships to me has been a blessing.  It's an honor.  Knowing these people trust me to capture these moments that they will never get back is the biggest complement I could ever accept and I do not take it for granted.  Thank you to the Ji family for trusting in me to capture these moments for you.  Jonah is simply perfect. <3 <3 <3
 

I've worked with Oliver's family a few times prior and have become really good friends with them over the last couple years.  The family had a hard time during those years but were very blessed when they received the news that Oliver's mother was expecting.  When I received the news I broke out in tears.  It was a VERY special announcement and not many people were going to know for a little while.  You see, Oliver is a rainbow baby.  And for those of you who are not familiar with that term I found this great quote to help explain.
 

"Rainbow babies is the understanding that the beauty of a rainbow does not negate the ravages of the storm.  When a rainbow appears, it doesn't mean the storm never happened or that the family is not still dealing with its aftermath.  What it means is that something beautiful and full of light has appeared in the midst of the darkness and clouds. Storm clouds may still hover but the rainbow provides a counterbalance of color, energy and hope"

Now on top of all of that Oliver made sure that his Momma was uncomfortable pretty much the whole pregnancy.  I felt so bad seeing her so uncomfortable.  But I could somewhat relate since my last pregnancy was a very nauseous one followed with LOTS of heartburn, swollen feet and ankles.  But at the end of it we are blessed with one (sometimes multiple) special being(s) that we created.   So to meet this little guy after everything his Momma and his family went through was bittersweet. 
 

So during his session little Oliver here didn't want to sleep much.  Yes, I know he is sleeping in the pictures but that was from (2) 4 hour sessions.  And 2 months later this boys is still not sleeping much lol. It happens.  But I was so thankful be to able to capture this sweet little one at the very beginning of his life.  I cannot wait to see him grow up, but hopefully not too fast. ;) -Amanda
 

I work long hours editing my client's sessions.  That means I comb through their images and will make sure the coloring is spot on and imperfections are cleaned up and so on and so forth.  So why would it be OK for my clients to print their portraits at the labs who really don't care what I do?  Now when my clients order through me they are getting my stamp of approval on what my labs print.  I will know that my client's along with their friends and family members are all seeing my true work.  

I've tried explaining this to people before and I guess it comes down to this.  Maybe seeing is believing.  I hope, heck I PRAY that everyone can see the difference between my original edited image and what a one hour lab did to my hard work.

Now I get there will always be those who want things well, cheaper.  That's fine, there are plenty of photographers out there willing to be that for you.  But my goal with my business is to be that person who will always offer you the best portraits I can give along with the best quality products and prints that will last a life time.   -Amanda
 

I was talking to the father while we were walking to different locations and he was telling me how doing these pictures were important. They were important because we are never guaranteed tomorrow.   And if tomorrow doesn't come for him what does she have to look back at. 
 

This really hit me.  As much as I dislike being in front of the camera myself how will my own children look back at special memories of me?  As much as we love looking at pictures of our own children, they in return need the same of us.  And I forget that too often.  As someone who has lost their own father at the age of 7 years old pictures are all I have of him.  I cannot remember his voice.  I cannot remember his mannerism.  And I have very little memories of us together.  I cherish those few pictures of him because he is a part of me.  My children are a part of him as well. 
 

I'm sorry if this blog comes off a little sad but I think we all need to remind ourselves (when we try to talk ourselves out of being in front of the camera) that these are for our children and our children's children, not for us.
 

So on that note, here is this amazing bond between father and daughter that I am so thankful to have been apart of.  -Amanda

Heather and Erik are so freaking adorable together!  I've known Heather for several years now and I think it was safe to say EVERYONE was excited for the news that Heather was expecting.  This woman is super active and yes she can even tell you she was still surfing almost right up to the point to when these pictures were taken!  And Erik, talk about a proud father-to-be!  These two are two amazing parents. Much love to you both and little Brody!
